Aate Jaate with Paras ji

Movie : Maine Pyar Kiya(Hindi)
Song : Aate Jaate
Music : Ram Laxman
Originally Sung by : Lata Mangeshkar , S.P.Balasubrahmanyam
Performed By : Parasmani Acharya, Dhiraj Barla

My blog is getting updated with a song after a very long break.

This song is in the offing from at least 4 months now. First of all I would like to thank the veteran singer of Audio blog world Paras ji, for accepting my request to do this song. Paras ji is a versatile singer and I think everyone who is associated with Audio blog world would agree with me. She has this great tendency to create an aura around her song choices and writing interesting snippets about them. Sorry Paras ji, It took me a while to get this song done.

This song is from the movie Maine Pyar Kiya, it created a mass hysteria among movie goers during those days. There were so many movies that were made after this movie in this genre, but not even one single movie came close to this one, if we take the success factor into consideration.

I wanted to sing this song from a long time, this movie songs have a special place in my heart. I started to show interest in learning Hindi songs only because the songs were sung by Padma Sri. S.P.Balasubrahmanyam garu. I owe him a lot.

Hope you guys like it.

Please pardon the quality of Karaoke track, I did lot of fixing, but still the quality is not up to the mark.

TANA MAA TV Indo American Super Singers Contest

In my musical journey, I took another step towards my dream. I won the TANA MAA TV Indo American Super Singer contest held in the first week of July 2009 at Chicago IL, USA.

It was a week of pressure, excitement, constant practice and opportunity to perform in front of esteemed judges, Mano (Nagur Babu), Suddala Ashok Teja(National Award Winning Lyricist), Chandra bose(Telugu Film Lyricist) and Goreti Venkanna(Telugu Film Lyricist).

The competition was started off with auditions in seven different cities in North America. We had ours in Toronto Canada. From each location they chose 2 singers (regardless of gender) and All Semifinalists traveled to Chicago for Semifinals and Finals.

First round of Semifinals was contestant’s choice round and after that they chose 7 for the second round of semifinals. I sang Mallelu Poose from Intinti Ramayanam sung by Sri.S.P.Balasubrahmanyam Garu. Here is the video of that song.

Second round of Semifinals were held on TANA Main Stage, which was filled with respected dignitaries and other popular film personalities along with over 2000 curious music lovers. In this round they asked every contest to sing Patriotic film Songs in Telugu. I sang Vedam La Ghoshince Godavari from Andhra Kesari again sung by Sri.S.P.Balasubrahmanyam Garu. Here is the video of that song.

Their initial plan was to have two rounds of Finals, one Melody and other Fast Beat film song. But due to time constraints (the show ended at 2:30 AM) they have decided to go ahead with a Melody song (Pallavi and Charanam) with no background music. I sang Chukkale Tochave from Nirikshana sung Sri.K.J.Yesudas Garu. Here is the video of that song.

Above all One of the most cherished moments of my life happenned on July 4th 2009. I met Sri.Balasubrahmanyam Garu, on the same stage in which he was felicitated for his Life Time Achievements. I was so thrilled to meet him after so many years (I met him before and got a prize from his hands during a singing competition conducted in our town - Guduru / Nellore District)

And the latest one

*Note: All these videos were shot using our Canon Digital Camera by my Wife, I think she did a wonderful job with the limited resources.

Aaoge Jab Tum - Jab We Met

Movie : Jab We Met(Hindi)
Song : Aaoge Jab Tum
Music : Sandesh Shandilya
Originally Sung by : Ustad Rashid Khan
Performed By : Dhiraj Barla

Here is a song from the movie Jab We Met, when I first heard this one in the movie, I was very much moved by its picturisation and the way Ustad Rashid Khan sang this one. I loved his strong voice and the way he sang those subtle emotions, truly classical. While I thought Pritam did a wonderful job in composing this song unlike the image he has. But to my surprise, it was not composed by him, rather it is guest composer Sandesh Shandilya.

This is just a humble attempt to sing this song by Ustad ji. Hope you guys like it.

Hum Bewafa

Movie : Shalimar(Hindi)
Song : Hum Bewafa
Music : R.D.Burman
Originally Sung by : Kishore Kumar
Performed By : Dhiraj Barla

It’s been a while that I have updated my blog with a new song. Vacation (India trip), work and severe cold from past 4 months eluded me from singing. I still haven’t fully recovered from cold.

I am back with a song from the Movie Shalimar, I watched this movie in a theater in our town, the only thing that stuck me was the last scene where Dharmendar tries to steal the diamond wearing an outfit similar to Chess Box (Black/White), that was the only memory I could take home at that age. Later on I watched this movie on D.D 8 on a satday. I loved that movie and it was a very well made movie for that times.

There is this song from this movie Hum Bewafa which I was very much attracted to mainly because of its melody, later on I understood the lyrics of the song. Shaan covered a remix of this song in his private album, which was very good.

Its just an humble attempt to sing this precious melody. Hope you all like this.

Oh Saathi Re - Omkara

Movie : Omkara(Hindi)
Song : Oh Saathi Re
Music : Vishal Bharadwaj
Originally Sung by : Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Bharadwaj
Performed By : Sudhathee, Dhiraj Barla

I am presenting a beautiful and classy song from the movie Omkara. The song has a distinct Vishal Bhardwaj touch. The track exudes the feeling of intimacy and deep love. Gulzar’s lyrics have the master’s stamp all over it as this ‘raaga’ based number is sung with perfection in low pitch by Shreya Ghoshal and Vishal Bhardwaj (composer/screenplay/director/dialogue). Thanks to Soumitra Sarkar for lending me the track.

This is my first duet with Sudhathee, a fellow Muzibian she has done an awesome job in rendering the minute details of the song. Take a note of her effortless flow of emotions when she sings Teri Meri Atti Patti, “Danth” Ke Kati Katti.

For the first time I am mixing a duet, I still have to learn loads of nuances in this. Please listen to this at your leisure and leave your advice/comments for both of us.

Maula Mere - Anwar

Movie : Anwar(Hindi)
Song : Maula Mere
Music : Mithoon
Originally Sung by : Roop Kumar Rathod

This song is from the movie Anwar which was released last year, even though the movie did not do well, its music became popular, especially two songs from this movie were huge hits they are Maula Mere and Tose Naina Lagey.

I am singing Maula Mere which is a romantic sufi song sung by Roopkumar Rathod, it sounds so divine in his voice. This song hooks you in such a way that it is difficult to get off from it. Not just the ‘mukhda’ but even the ‘antara’ of the song is a unique experience in itself that makes this easy-on-instruments and high-on-quality as one of the best romantic numbers heard last year.

It’s just a humble attempt to sing that number. Please bear with the quality of Karaoke-track, I could not get hold of a better one. Please listen to it at your leisure and leave a comment/advice.

Yeduta Nilichindi Choodu (Anisuthide yaako indu)

Movie : Vaana(Telugu)-Mungaru Male(Kannada)
Song : Yeduta Nilichindi Choodu (Anisuthide yaako indu)
Music : Kamalakar
Originally Sung by : Karthik
Performed By : Dhiraj Barla

I have been on the look out for Telugu Karaoke's for a long time, I couldn't find one, but accidentally I listened to a Telugu song from the movie Vaana (Mungaru Male in Kannada and the song is “Anisuthide yaako indu”) in Muziboo which was sung by Sriram Srinivasan. He sang the Telugu version on Kannada's Karaoke track. From that moment I wanted to sing that song too, but I couldn't lay my hands on that Karaoke.

Luckily I got this track from E-snips last week. This song in Telugu was sung by Karthik with subtle modulations that are close to SP Balu gari's style. Telugu version's arrangements were little different from the original (especially during the charanams), so I had to adjust my pace at some places, please ignore that and please pardon the quality of K-track. Let me also know how you like the mixing.

Please listen to this at your leisure and leave your feedback.
